Restoration of antique gold leaf lettering, set within a stained glass fanlight. The original, water damaged lettering was carefully traced before being cleaned off the reverse of the glass. The lettering turned out to be trapped between two thin panes of glass, so we removed the inside pane by opening out the lead, before re-sealing the front pane with linseed oil putty. The original design was then faithfully re-applied in hand-painted enamel and real gold leaf, with a protective coat of clear varnish, slightly overlapping the letters.
